Jennifer Jacobs is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. She holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Cornell University, an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Tufts University, and a Sc.B. in Electrical Engineering from Brown University.
Her research spans over 25 years and focuses on climate change impacts on infrastructure, cold regions hydrology, snow hydrology, and evapotranspiration, combining NASA big data with field experiments. She has published over 100 journal articles and mentored 41 graduate students (11 Ph.D. and 30 master's), 8 postdoctoral scientists, and numerous undergraduates.
Recent work highlights UAS (drone) technologies for studying mid-latitude snow, soil frost, and infrastructure resilience. Her publications include studies on climate change impacts on roadways, flood forecasting economics, and remote sensing applications in hydrology.
Her lab synthesizes data from LiDAR, hyperspectral imaging, thermal sensors, and ground penetrating radar to address cold region hazards like avalanches and glacial lake outburst floods. She emphasizes experimental fieldwork and tractable physical modeling.
