Jennifer Flemming

Dr. Jennifer Flemming is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and Public Health Sciences at Queen’s University, with clinical expertise in gastroenterology, hepatology, and liver transplantation. She is the ICES-Queen’s Site Director since 2022 and leads a research program focusing on cirrhosis epidemiology and outcomes using Ontario administrative data. She holds cross appointments in the Cancer Care & Epidemiology group at Queen’s Cancer Research Institute and the Department of Public Health Sciences.

Research Interests: Dr. Flemming’s work centers on hepatic diseases, including cirrhosis, biliary tract cancers, hepatitis C, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Her research explores healthcare delivery models, public health strategies, and the epidemiology of liver diseases. Key areas include the link between cirrhosis and biliary tract cancers, health equity in liver transplantation access, and improving outcomes for patients with chronic liver conditions.

Key Contributions: Her studies have quantified the burden of biliary tract cancer in Ontario, identified risk factors for liver-related outcomes, and influenced national healthcare policies. She is actively involved in guideline development for liver diseases through roles in CASL and AASLD committees.
