Dr. Jennifer Eastabrook is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Trent University, located at the Durham GTA campus. She holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Trent University and a Ph.D. from Queen’s University. Her research focuses on adolescent emotional development, particularly the impact of emotional awareness and regulation on mental health outcomes.
Her research interests encompass understanding changes in emotional experiences and expressions during adolescence. Key areas include the effects of poor emotional awareness on processing strategies, links between emotional regulation and internalizing symptoms, and treatment trajectories of adolescents in addiction centers. She examines variables such as emotional processing, family functioning, and mental health acuity in these contexts.
Her scholarly contributions span over two decades, from foundational work on alexithymia assessment tools in adolescents to recent studies on pandemic impacts on youth in treatment facilities. Articles highlight themes like cross-cultural validity of psychometric instruments and emotional intelligence’s role in academic transitions.
Dr. Eastabrook is actively mentoring students, currently accepting graduate students and honours thesis candidates for 2025-2026. She also oversees practicum placements. While specific grants are not detailed, her research aligns with funding priorities in adolescent mental health and clinical psychology.
