Jennifer E. Mapes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Kent State University. She teaches courses in Human Geography, Qualitative Methods, Cartographic Design, and Urban Sustainability. Her research examines urban sustainability in small cities, with a focus on how global changes manifest locally.
Her work explores downtown redevelopment—particularly in Kent, Ohio—where she collaborates with community organizations and develops GIS resources for public access. She received the 2017 Volunteer of the Year award from Main Street Kent for designing downtown map kiosks.
