Jennifer DeClue is an Associate Professor in The Program for the Study of Women and Gender at Smith College. She is a queer studies scholar specializing in Black feminism, gender and chattel slavery, queer of color critique, film studies, and avant-garde cinema. Her research explores intersections of race, gender, and sexuality through historical and cultural lenses.

Her groundbreaking book Visitation: The Conjure Work of Black Feminist Avant-Garde Cinema (Duke University Press, 2022) examines the legacy of Black feminist experimental film. She is currently researching competing histories of abolition and slavery in the northern United States.
