Jennifer Cavet is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester's Division of Evolution, Infection and Genomics within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. She leads research on bacterial metal homeostasis and pathogenicity, focusing on pathogens like Salmonella, Listeria, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation.
Education: BSc Microbiology and PhD. Research emphasizes how bacterial pathogens manage metal acquisition and toxicity to survive host immune defenses and develop antimicrobial resistance. Projects target drug development against tuberculosis and foodborne pathogens. She chairs the Pathogens GM/Bio Safety Committee and coordinates microbiology teaching programs.
Her research spans bacterial metal-handling mechanisms, host-pathogen interactions, and structure-based drug design. Collaborations include engineering biology for metal recovery from industrial waste. Recent publications explore Listeria invasion, Mycobacterium drug inhibitors, and microbiology research history.
Advising and grants include leading a team on metal recovery projects and serving as an external examiner for microbiology programs. Her lab focuses on bacterial virulence factors and antimicrobial strategies, with applications in clinical and agricultural settings.
