Dr. Jennifer C. Geib is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University, where she also serves as the Undergraduate Program Director for Biology Secondary Education and Assistant Chair for Student Affairs. Her interdisciplinary work bridges ecology and science education, with significant contributions to understanding plant-pollinator mutualisms and preparing effective science educators.
Dr. Geib's educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Missouri (2010)
- M.Ed. in Science Education from the University of Missouri (2002)
- B.S. in Science Education from the University of Iowa (1996)
Her research spans two interconnected realms: Ecology and Science Education. Within ecology, she investigates partner dynamics in pollination mutualisms across spatial and temporal scales, population biology and genetics of plants and eusocial pollinators (particularly bumble bees), links between individual animal behavior and larger-scale effects, and climate change impacts on pollination systems. Her educational research focuses on science teacher preparation throughout educators' careers, with attention to adolescent literacy in science classrooms and preservice elementary educators' dispositions toward science and the environment.
Dr. Geib's publication record demonstrates expertise in both ecological research and science education scholarship, with recent work examining climate change impacts on pollinator communities and educational approaches to science literacy. Her research combines field studies in alpine habitats with quantitative modeling approaches and long-term monitoring of pollinator populations.

Current projects include investigating genetic structure among bumble bee populations, modeling vegetation management effects, and conducting long-term monitoring in both Rocky Mountain and Southern Appalachian regions.
