استاد · Marine community ecology
California State University, Fullertonمعرفی
Jennifer Burnaford is a Professor in the Biological Sciences Department at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). She holds a PhD from Oregon State University and a BA from Dartmouth College. Her research focuses on marine community ecology, species interactions, and abiotic factors shaping species distributions. She regularly teaches courses in Evolution & Biodiversity, Phycology, and Coastal Ecology.
Her research interests emphasize understanding how environmental stressors, ecological interactions, and abiotic conditions influence marine ecosystems. Notably, she investigates population dynamics of intertidal species, ecosystem engineering by kelp, and impacts of invasive species in urban lagoons. Her work bridges field observations with experimental approaches to address pressing ecological challenges.
Burnaford has authored/co-authored influential studies on topics like sea star wasting disease, rocky intertidal community evaluation, and the role of celestial mechanics in kelp distribution. Her publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches, including genomics and ecological modeling, to understand marine systems.
She advises students such as M. Vasquez (2008 co-author). While no awards are explicitly listed, her contributions to marine ecology are reflected in her extensive publication record. Her research aligns with CSUF’s commitment to environmental science and conservation.
