Jennifer A Kearney is an Associate Professor at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Pharmacology. She leads the Jennifer A Kearney Lab, focusing on genetic factors behind severe childhood epilepsies and neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Education: BA from Middlebury College (1992), PhD from University of Michigan (1997), Postdoctoral Fellow in Genetics at University of Michigan (2002)
Her research employs genetically engineered mouse models and in vitro/ex vivo systems for genomic, transcriptomic, and pharmacological studies aiming to translate genetic knowledge into better epilepsy treatments. Current work includes studying Dravet syndrome, alternating hemiplegia of childhood, and KCNB1-related epilepsies.
Recent publications highlight studies on seizure burden in Dravet mice, cannabinol-melatonin interactions, and novel mouse models for childhood neurological disorders. Her work spans epilepsy genetics, ion channelopathies, and neuroimmunology.
- Scientific Awards
- Core Values Integrity Award (2024)
- Fellow of the American Epilepsy Society (2017)
- Young Investigator Travel Award (2004)
She collaborates with institutions like the Dravet Syndrome Foundation, FamilieSCN2A Foundation, and receives support from NIH grants. Her lab maintains active scientific advisory roles and editorial contributions to epilepsy research communities.
