Education
- M.S. in Human Factors Psychology from Clemson University
- Ph.D. in Human Factors Psychology from Clemson University
Research Interests
Dr. Scisco's research spans several interconnected domains focused on human behavior and physiology. Her primary interests include Nutrition and Eating Behaviors, where she investigates obesity bias, dietary patterns, and interventions to promote healthy eating. In Human-Computer Interaction in the Workplace, she examines how technology affects work performance and well-being, including studies on treadmill desks for remote workers. Her Psychophysiological Research combines physiological measurements with psychological assessment to understand the mind-body connections in eating behavior and workplace stress. Much of her work has practical applications in military settings, having previously worked with the U.S. Army's Military Nutrition Division.
Analysis of Dr. Scisco's publication history reveals consistent focus on measurement of eating behaviors through innovative technological approaches, workplace behavior and incivility, and the psychological aspects of nutrition. Her early work centered on developing and validating the "Bite Counter" technology, while more recent publications examine workplace adaptations like treadmill desks in the era of remote work. There's a clear trajectory from basic measurement tools to applied workplace interventions.
Scientific Awards
- U.S. patent for a "Bite Counter" device that measures ambulatory eating activity (with colleagues from Clemson University)
Advising and Research
Dr. Scisco actively mentors undergraduate students through her Health and Human Performance Lab, with several publications listing undergraduate co-authors. She has developed best practices for undergraduate research mentorship, including assessment rubrics for research experiences. Her work with the U.S. Army's Military Nutrition Division provided foundation for her current research on eating behaviors and workplace performance. Current research appears to focus on adapting workplace technologies for home office environments, particularly examining treadmill desk usage among remote workers.
Research Facilities
Dr. Scisco directs the Health and Human Performance Lab at Eastern Connecticut State University, where she and her students conduct research on obesity bias, nutrition, eating behaviors, and technology use in workplace settings. The lab appears to specialize in using wearable technology to measure eating behaviors and workplace performance metrics.
