Jenelle Lukasik serves as Associate Professor of Mathematics and Program Coordinator in the Division of Natural and Behavioral Sciences at Hilbert College, where she has taught since 2007 after transitioning from a part-time to full-time position. Her work focuses on making mathematics accessible to non-mathematics majors through practical applications across diverse disciplines.
Her educational background includes:
- BA in Mathematics and Adolescent Education from Canisius University
- MA in Mathematics from SUNY at Buffalo
Lukasik specializes in applied mathematics with emphasis on real-world problem solving. Her teaching integrates Discrete Mathematics (set theory, logic, binary systems) for computer science and cybersecurity applications, Statistics for data analysis, and Graph Theory for route optimization. She develops innovative courses like Mathematical Applications where students create projects connecting math to sports, health, and daily errands, while adapting methods to diverse learning styles through lectures, practice problems, and project-based assessments.
Through project-based mentoring in courses like Graph Theory, students design practical solutions such as optimized daily routes. Though Hilbert lacks mathematics graduate programs, Lukasik cultivates critical thinking skills applicable to careers in business, criminal justice, and cybersecurity, exemplified by her impact on a police officer student who gained operational insights from understanding Z-scores in crime analysis.
