Jelena Seferović, PhD, is a scholar specializing in women’s history, history of medicine, and social welfare systems. She currently holds the position of Assistant with a PhD at the Institute of Contemporary History in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and is affiliated with the Institute for Anthropological Research in Zagreb, Croatia. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Zagreb (2017) and an M.A. in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts, Zagreb (2007).
Her research focuses on topics such as the daily lives of individuals with mental disorders, disability history, and the intersection of gender with healthcare systems. Notable projects include leading the Slovenian-Croatian project Care and Education Systems for Children with Sensory Disabilities (2023–present) and contributing to the ERC-funded EIRENE project (2018–2020), which examined post-war gendered transitions in the Adriatic region.
Jelena has been actively involved in academic governance, serving as Chairperson of the Gender Equality Commission at the Institute for Anthropological Research (2024–present). Her teaching contributions include workshops in art therapy and interdisciplinary anthropology courses at the University of Pula. Recent publications explore institutional care dynamics, post-war mental health, and gendered humanitarian work in historical contexts.
