Jelena Reste

Jelena Reste is an Associate Professor and Head of Department at Riga Stradins University's Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Faculty of Medicine. She also serves as a Leading Researcher in the Development and Projects Department and a Researcher at the Institute of Occupational Safety and Environmental Health. Her work spans academia, research, and international collaborations.

• PhD in Medical Sciences (Cardiology and Biochemistry, Tartu University)
• Specialist certification in Clinical Electrocardiography

Research Focus: Ethnopharmacology of plant-derived polyphenols, enzyme modulation (lipase, amylase, pepsin), antioxidant mechanisms, degenerative diseases, metabolic syndrome, and biomarkers of aging. She explores how natural compounds like diarylheptanoids and lignins affect lipid oxidation, digestive systems, and disease pathogenesis.

Scientific Contributions: Active in COST actions (FA1403, FA1005, CM0804), EU programs (WOODWISDOM, POSITIVE), and international collaborations (France, Spain, Sweden). Her publications address plant compounds' roles in metabolic disorders, enzymatic activity, and disease prevention.
