Jelena Popovic-Neuber

Jelena Popović-Neuber is an Associate Professor of Battery Technology at the University of Stavanger, affiliated with the Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering under the Faculty of Science and Technology. Her work bridges experimental and theoretical approaches in materials science and electrochemistry, focusing on electrochemical energy storage materials. She holds a PhD in Colloid Chemistry from the University of Potsdam/Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (2011), a Dipl.-Ing. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Belgrade (2008), and has held roles including Staff Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research (2011–2022) and Visiting Scientist at MIT (2018).

Her research emphasizes ion transport mechanisms in battery electrolytes, solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) dynamics, and advanced characterization techniques like electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Key areas include next-generation battery materials for alkaline metal anodes, polymer electrolytes, and sustainable energy systems. Recent work highlights methodologies for improving ionic conductivity and cationic transference numbers in soft matter electrolytes.

Professional commitments include leading the FME Battery research center (2025–2032), organizing the 2025 International Society of Electrochemistry symposium on lithium-ion batteries, and editorial roles at high-impact journals.
