Jeffrey K Harrison is a Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Florida's College of Medicine. His research focuses on understanding immune mechanisms in glioblastoma, particularly the role of chemokines and myeloid cells in tumor progression and immunotherapy resistance. He holds a PhD and BS from the University of Michigan.
- Education:
- PhD, 1988, University of Michigan
- BS, 1983, University of Michigan
His research interests include cancer immunology, chemokine signaling pathways, and glioblastoma therapy development. Key projects involve targeting CX3CR1 and CCR2 pathways to modulate immune cell behavior in tumors. He has led or co-investigated grants from NIH, Florida Department of Health, and others, focusing on immunotherapy, glioblastoma biology, and drug delivery systems.
Recent work highlights the role of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and cilia in glioma progression. His lab develops chemokine receptor antagonists and explores combination therapies to enhance checkpoint inhibitor efficacy.
Grants & Funding:
- Targeting CCR2-expressing myeloid cells to overcome immune checkpoint inhibitor resistance in glioma (NIH NINDS, PI)
- Florida Center for Brain Tumor Research (ACCELERATE Brain Cancer Cure, Co-I)
Labs/Teams: Research conducted in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, including mathematical modeling for immune dynamics and preclinical drug testing platforms.
