Jeffrey Johnson is an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco and a retired faculty member. He holds a BA in Psychology from Yale University and a PhD in Developmental and Experimental Psychology from Stanford University. His expertise spans human-computer interaction (HCI), UI design, and computer science education.
Dr. Johnson has held visiting roles at the University of Canterbury (New Zealand) as an Erskine Fellow and has taught at Stanford University and Mills College. His career includes roles at Xerox, Hewlett-Packard Labs, and Sun Microsystems, alongside leadership in organizations like the SIGCHI Public Policy Committee and Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility (CPSR).
His research focuses on improving user interface design principles, addressing aging population needs in technology, and ethical technology applications. Recent work critiques AI fragility and explores digital literacy challenges in advertising. He is a Distinguished Member of ACM and recipient of SIGCHI's Lifetime Achievement Award.
He currently advises Truth in Advertising on recyclable packaging labeling and is updating his seminal book Conceptual Models for 2024 publication.
