Jeffrey J. Taylor is Professor of Music and Director of the Hitchcock Institute for Studies in American Music (HISAM) at Brooklyn College, City University of New York. He teaches courses in American music, jazz, and Western art music within the Conservatory of Music and advises dissertations at the CUNY Graduate Center. He edits the journal American Music Review and oversees conferences, grants, and public events at HISAM.

Research Interests: Taylor specializes in jazz history, American musical traditions, and piano performance practices. His work explores cultural narratives in jazz, transnational influences in American music, and the legacies of pioneering artists like Earl Hines and Thelonious Monk. Current projects include studies on Pharoah Sanders and Chicago jazz.
Publications: Taylor's scholarship spans critical editions, peer-reviewed articles, and book chapters, often analyzing jazz improvisation, historical contexts, and underrepresented musicians. His recent works reflect interdisciplinary approaches linking musicology with cultural studies.

Leadership: As HISAM director, Taylor manages staff, fundraising, and public programming. He co-developed Brooklyn College's M.A. in Global and Contemporary Jazz and chairs national committees for the Society for American Music.
