Jeffrey J. Marlow

Jeffrey J. Marlow is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Boston University, where he directs research on microbial communities in extreme environments. His lab investigates metabolic interactions in salt marshes, geothermal sites, and deep-sea methane seeps.

Education includes a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology. Research combines novel microscopy techniques with geochemical analyses to understand microbe-mineral interactions and metabolic activity.

His publications focus on microbial methane processing, isotopic tracing methods, and astrobiological applications. Recent work explores microbial colonization of volcanic rocks and mineral-electrode interfaces. Field expeditions have examined hydrothermal vents, methane seeps, and Antarctic systems.

Marlow founded the Ad Astra Academy for science education and contributes to ocean conservation policy. Current projects include Chilean Margin methane seeps and Mid-Cayman Rise hydrothermal chimneys.
