Jeffrey Heiman is a Lecturer and Deputy Chair at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, part of the CUNY system. He holds an MA from The City College of New York and a BA from the University of Vermont. His academic focus lies in creative writing and literature, with particular emphasis on narrative nonfiction and justice-related themes.

He is a fiction writer and essayist whose work appears in Inkwell, The Massachusetts Review, and Travelers' Tales. His nonfiction novel East Hill earned recognition through the 2001 Best American Essays anthology. He co-founded J Journal: New Writing on Justice and co-edits John Jay’s Finest, an annual student writing anthology.
Recent projects include the novel Work Ethic, set in late-1960s New York City, exploring socio-cultural transitions. His interdisciplinary work bridges literary arts with justice studies through collaborative publishing initiatives.
