Jeffrey Gunshol is a Senior Professor of Practice in Dance and Theatre at Tulane University's School of Liberal Arts, Department of Theatre & Dance. He holds an MFA from the University of Utah and has extensive experience as a dancer, choreographer, and educator. His career includes collaborations with renowned artists such as Liz Lerman, Mark Dendy, and Vincent Cacalano, as well as international work in Amsterdam. Gunshol is a 2004 recipient of the Weiss Presidential Fellowship for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
Education: MFA in Dance (University of Utah), Undergraduate degree in Dance (Virginia Commonwealth University). Early training included the Baltimore School for the Arts and Alvin Ailey American Dance Center.
Research & Performance: Specializes in contemporary dance, collaborative choreography, and interdisciplinary performance. Notable collaborations include projects with Danish choreographer Eric Pold and Dutch choreographer Martin Butler. His work emphasizes artistic innovation and pedagogical excellence in undergraduate education.
Awards: Weiss Presidential Fellowship (2004), recognizing exceptional teaching in undergraduate programs.
Teaching & Professional Experience: Taught at East Carolina University prior to Tulane. Active in guest artist roles with organizations like Magpie Music and Dance. Extensive performance history with companies including Dendy Dance and Liz Lerman Dance Exchange.
