Jeffrey Green is a Professor and Andrea Mitchell Endowed Director of the Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study of Democracy at the University of Pennsylvania. His work bridges ancient and modern political philosophy, focusing on democracy, spectatorship, and liberal theory. He holds a BA from Yale University, a JD from Yale Law School, and a PhD from Harvard University. His research examines the tensions between democratic ideals and contemporary challenges, including inequality and civic engagement.
Green has authored three influential books: *Bob Dylan: Prophet Without God* (2024), *The Shadow of Unfairness* (2016), and *The Eyes of the People* (2010), which received the APSA First Book Prize. His edited volume *The Changing Terrain of Religious Freedom* (2021) explores interfaith dynamics. He teaches courses on political theory, ancient thought, and democracy.
His awards include Penn’s Dean’s Award for Teaching (2013) and the Henry Teune Award (2023). Green directs the Mitchell Center, fostering interdisciplinary democracy research. His articles span journals like *Political Science Quarterly*, *Theoria*, and *Political Theory*, addressing topics from Machiavelli to modern liberalism’s crises.
