Jeffrey Brock is the William S. Massey Professor of Mathematics and Professor of Statistics & Data Science at Yale University. He currently serves as Dean of the School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS), overseeing strategic initiatives in engineering and applied science. Previously, he was Dean of Science in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), managing departments like Mathematics, Physics, and Biology. His leadership roles include founding the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics and establishing Brown University's Data Science Initiative.
He earned his B.S. from Yale (1992) and Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (1997). His research focuses on hyperbolic geometry, low-dimensional topology, and applying topological methods to complex data. Notable contributions include the geometric classification of hyperbolic 3-manifolds and exploring connections between hyperbolic geometry and theoretical physics.
Brock's awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship and AMS Fellowship. His recent work bridges hyperbolic geometry with data science, particularly analyzing high-dimensional datasets' topological structures. He has held postdoctoral positions at Stanford and the University of Chicago, and his administrative roles reflect his commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and academic leadership.
