Jeffrey Blomster is a Professor of Anthropology and International Affairs at George Washington University. His research focuses on social complexity, interregional interaction, and symbolism/ideology in Mesoamerica, particularly among the Mixtec, Zapotec, and Olmec cultures. He has conducted extensive archaeological fieldwork in Oaxaca, Mexico, examining the emergence of socio-political structures and regional interactions.
Education: Ph.D. from Yale University. Undergraduate studies in Anthropology and Political Science at Washington and Lee University.
Research interests include the rise of complex societies, ceramic traditions, and diachronic urbanism in Oaxaca. His work investigates the Yucuita ceramic phase (500–300 BCE) and post-800 CE sociopolitical transformations in Oaxaca.
Publications: Edited the book After Monte Albán (2008), contributing two chapters. Research emphasizes chemical approaches to stylistic analysis and ritual practices in pre-Columbian cultures.
