Jeffrey Ackerman

Jeffrey Ackerman is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado School of Mines. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, where his research focused on the dynamics of legged locomotion with compliant suspension systems under heavy loads, funded by an NSF grant and the prestigious National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship (NDSEG).

His research spans robotics, biomechanics, design engineering, 3D printing, prototyping, and entrepreneurship. Ackerman incorporates real-world entrepreneurial experiences into project-based courses and advises the Mines Makers Society. He founded Prehensile Technologies, developing robotic assistive devices, and created the Eco Face Shield during COVID-19.
