Dr. Jeffery McGhee is a Professor of Voice at Roberts Wesleyan College, specializing in vocal pedagogy and literature. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in Vocal Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master of Music (M.M.) in Vocal Performance from the University of Akron, and a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Vocal Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi.
His performance career includes notable roles such as Alidoro in La Cenerentola (Rossini), the Poet in Salieri’s First the Music, Then the Words, and El Gallo in The Fantasticks. He has collaborated with institutions like the Rochester Oratorio Society, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and Opera for the Young, with recent projects involving a lecture recital on H.T. Burleigh’s spirituals and a CD of hymns and spirituals with retired colleague Dr. Michael Landrum.
Dr. McGhee teaches courses in voice, vocal pedagogy, vocal literature, and musical stage performance. His students have pursued graduate degrees in music education, pedagogy, and performance, becoming successful educators across the United States. His research focuses on connectedness in vocal training, historical composers of spirituals, and interdisciplinary musical storytelling.
