Dr. Jeffery Johnson is a Lecturer in the Department of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies at the University of Mississippi's School of Applied Sciences. He has been a faculty member since 2005 and coordinates criminal justice programs across multiple regional campuses. Alongside his academic role, he serves as a Part-Time Training Instructor/Deputy with the Tunica County Sheriff's Office, leveraging his 20+ years of law enforcement experience with the Kansas Highway Patrol and other agencies.
Dr. Johnson holds a B.S. and M.S. in Criminal Justice from Washburn University (1996, 1999), a Graduate Certificate in Homeland Security from Texas A&M (2014), and an Ed.D. in Professional Studies from Delta State University (2014). His certifications include Expert Gang Specialist (NGCRC), Mississippi Law Enforcement Instructor, and Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor.
His research focuses on gang dynamics, terrorism financing, hate crime education, and law enforcement strategies. He has authored/co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and presented at conferences such as the National Gang Crime Research Center and the Center for Homeland Defense and Security.
