Jeffery Davis

Jeffery Davis is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Maryland since 2003, having previously served as Assistant (1993-99) and Associate Professor (1999-2003). He holds a B.A. from Colby College (1981) and a Ph.D. from MIT (1987), followed by a NIH postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington (1990-93). His research focuses on supramolecular chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, and natural products, particularly hydrogel self-assembly and anion transport mechanisms. Davis has been recognized with awards including the Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar (1998-2003) and University of Maryland Distinguished Teacher-Scholar (2018-19). He has mentored over 35 undergraduates, 18 Ph.D., and 10 M.S. students.

His work explores functional supramolecular structures like hydrogels for drug delivery and environmental remediation. Recent studies include potassium borate-templated guanosine hydrogels and iron-responsive gels. Davis has organized major conferences, including the 9th International Conference on Calixarene Chemistry (2007) and served on the UMCP Nanotechnology Advisory Board since 2004. His lab's innovations span material science, bioorganic systems, and green chemistry applications.
