Jeff Tseng

Jeff Tseng is a Professor of Physics and Tutorial Fellow at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford. He is affiliated with the Subdepartment of Particle Physics within the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division. His research spans experimental particle physics and astrophysics with a focus on neutrino phenomena and supernova studies.

Dr. Tseng's research interests center on neutrino physics, particularly the investigation of neutrino mass through neutrino-less double beta decay experiments. As a key member of the SNO+ experiment at SNOLAB, he explores fundamental questions about neutrino properties. His work also extends to core-collapse supernovae, where he investigates how neutrino observations can reveal insights into these violent cosmic events. He co-convenes the astrophysics/supernova/exotics neutrino working group on SNO+ and co-leads the 'pointing' task group of the Supernova Neutrino Early Warning System (SNEWS), a global network of neutrino observatories. Additionally, he contributes to the Vera Rubin Observatory's LSST project, developing software to monitor the telescope's camera for studying extragalactic supernovae.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on neutrino detection techniques, supernova early warning systems, and multi-messenger astronomy approaches. The research trajectory shows increasing emphasis on developing practical applications for neutrino detection networks that could provide crucial early warnings for galactic supernova events. As an educator, Professor Tseng maintains a substantial teaching load across all undergraduate years in Physics and Physics & Philosophy, supervising numerous undergraduate students and DPhil candidates across various research areas within particle physics and astrophysics.
