Jeff Redding is a Senior Research Fellow at Melbourne Law School, The University of Melbourne. His research focuses on comparative law and religion, Islamic law, legal pluralism, family law, and law and sexuality. He has held visiting roles including Visiting Professor at l’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, Visiting Fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg (Germany), and Dean/Professor at Lahore University of Management Sciences’ Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law.

Research interests include legal frameworks in South Asia, with recent work on transgender rights in Pakistan/India and state governance through Islamic law in India. Publications appear in Modern Asian Studies, Modern Law Review, and others. He contributes to The Oxford Handbook of Islamic Law as South Asia expert.
Awards/fellowships include roles at Yale Law School (Oscar M. Ruebhausen), Harvard Islamic Legal Studies Program, and Columbia Law School’s Center for Law and Culture.
