Jeff Dixon is a Professor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at the College of the Holy Cross. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Indiana University and a BS in Secondary Education from Wright State University. His research focuses on social stratification, political sociology, race/ethnicity/immigration studies, quantitative methods, and the intersection of worker insecurity with neoliberalism. He has received a National Science Foundation grant (2013) for collaborative research on worker insecurity and part-time work institutionalization.
Professor Dixon teaches courses on artificial intelligence, social class and power, research methods, and introductory sociology. He co-authored The Process of Social Research (3rd ed.) with Royce Singleton Jr. and Bruce Straits. His work has been published in journals such as Social Forces, Public Opinion Quarterly, and British Journal of Sociology.
His research explores topics including generational divides in policy attitudes, neoliberalism’s impact on economic freedom perceptions, and cross-national labor market dynamics. He has examined European Union expansion opposition, liberal democratic values in Turkey, and anti-Kurdish sentiments through cultural and group threat theories.
Notable contributions include analyzing employment quality across global contexts, EU social policy transformations, and the relationship between job insecurity and health outcomes in Europe. His work bridges empirical research with theoretical frameworks in sociology.
