Associate Professor Jeannie Rea serves as Head of Community Programs in the College of Arts, Business, Law, Education and IT at Victoria University, Melbourne, and chairs the Quality Teaching and Learning Committee of Academic Board. With over four decades of experience in tertiary education, she previously held leadership roles including Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Education and Human Development and Head of the School of Communication and the Arts.
Her educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (1979), Diploma of Education (1980), and Master in Environmental Science (1986), all from Monash University. Prior to returning to Victoria University in 2019, she completed two terms as National President of the National Tertiary Education Union (2010-2018) and served on the Australian Council of Trade Unions national executive.
Professor Rea's research centers on community development with emphasis on advocacy for social change and environmental justice. Her recent landmark achievement includes developing the comprehensive Roadmap for TAFE South Australia, adopted by the South Australian Government in August 2023 to guide the TAFESA Strategic Plan for the next decade. She approaches education as a transformative force for creating equitable and sustainable societies, bridging academic theory with community action.
She actively contributes to public discourse through community roles including long-term membership on the National Youth Employment Body Advisory Board and chairing the Australian Living Peace Museum board. Her work consistently focuses on access, equity, and quality education both nationally and internationally, reflecting her commitment to education's power in driving progressive social change.
