Dr. Jeanine Davis is an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Horticultural Science at North Carolina State University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Based at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center, her program focuses on improving farm sustainability through organic production systems, new crop development (including herbs, hemp, hops, and truffles), and vegetable production optimization. She earned her PhD in Horticulture from Washington State University (1987).
Her research encompasses organic vegetable production, medicinal herb cultivation, forest farming, and industrial hemp agronomy. Current projects include breeding tomatoes for organic systems, hop cultivar development, truffle orchard management, and hemp production optimization across multiple research stations. She leads collaborative projects like the Tomato Organic Management and Improvement (TOMI) initiative and Appalachian Beginning Forest Farmer Coalition.
Dr. Davis has received numerous honors including Fellow of the American Society for Horticultural Science and multiple Extension Blue Ribbon Awards. Her outreach includes organizing conferences, workshops, and field days across North Carolina, and she authored Growing and Marketing Ginseng, Goldenseal and Other Woodland Medicinals.
