Professor Jeanette Winterson is a renowned author and academic at the University of Manchester's Centre for New Writing. Born in Manchester, she published her groundbreaking debut novel Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit at age 23, followed by acclaimed works such as Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? and Frankissstein. She has received the Whitbread Prize, OBE, and CBE for her contributions to literature. Her research explores intersections of technology, identity, and narrative, with a focus on AI ethics in 12 Bytes and gothic digital themes in Night Side of the River.
Winterson’s academic role includes teaching creative writing on the MA program. She holds honorary degrees from Oxford and Manchester Universities. Her memoir and fiction often blend personal and historical narratives, addressing queer identity, adoption, and societal structures.
Her recent projects include speculative fiction analyzing AI’s societal impact and literary reinterpretations of classic texts. Winterson resides in the Cotswolds and Spitalfields, balancing writing with public lectures on topics like humanity’s future in the AI era.
