Jean-Pierre Blanchet is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM) and a member of the ESCER Climate Centre. He has been instrumental in developing cloud and radiation process schemes for two generations of the Canadian Global Climate Model (GCM) and contributed as an author to the first IPCC report. His research focuses on intricate feedback processes involving aerosols, clouds, radiation, and precipitation in the Arctic climate system.
For over two decades, Dr. Blanchet has specialized in instrumental development for observing cold regions, contributing to major satellite missions including EarthCARE (ESA/JAXA/CSA) and CloudSat-CALIPSO within NASA's Earth Observing System. As principal investigator for the far IR spectro-radiometer (TICFIRE) on NASA's upcoming A-CCP climate mission, he leads efforts to advance climate observation technologies for the next two decades.
