Jean-Luc Laffont is a Lecturer in Modern History at the University of Perpignan-Via Domitia, where he is affiliated with the Center for Research on Mediterranean Societies and Environments (CRESEM - EA 7397). He has directed the Notarial History collection at Presses Universitaires du Midi (University of Toulouse-II Jean Jaurès).

Research Interests: Specializing in urban history of the modern period (16th-18th century), Laffont's work focuses on public order and the notarial history of Southern France (Gascony, Languedoc, Roussillon), aiming to understand ancient social norms. He has also explored anthropogenic disasters (fires, epidemics) and natural disasters (floods, earthquakes) in Southern France during the modern period, alongside themes in collective mentalities and social history.
