Dr. Jean-Luc Gattolliat is a Research Fellow at the Museum of Zoology, Lausanne, affiliated with the Department of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Lausanne. His research focuses on aquatic macroinvertebrates, particularly mayflies (Ephemeroptera), with a special emphasis on the family Baetidae. He has expertise in systematics, phylogeny, and biogeography, extending to tropical regions like Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Since 2002, he has collaborated extensively with Michel Sartori on projects involving alpha-taxonomy, molecular tools, and island colonization dynamics.
Education: PhD (2002) from UNIL and Museum of Zoology, Lausanne; Master's (1993–1994) at UNIL; scientific collaboration in Madagascar (1996–1997).
Research interests include taxonomy, phylogeography, and the integration of morphological and genetic data. His recent work highlights species discovery in Morocco, Thailand, and New Guinea, emphasizing cryptic diversity and biogeographic patterns. Over 60 species and 8 genera have been described by him.
Publications span taxonomic revisions, new species descriptions, and phylogenetic studies, reflecting a global focus on mayfly biodiversity. Collaborations with international researchers underscore his role in advancing entomological systematics.
