Jean-Louis Dassier is a Professor in the Foreign Languages section of the Language, Literature, and Writing Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, part of the College of Arts, Humanities, Media, and Public Affairs.

Research Focus: Dr. Dassier specializes in French language pedagogy and applied linguistics with particular expertise in second language acquisition methodologies. With his transatlantic educational background spanning French and American institutions, he brings a distinctive comparative perspective to language education that bridges European literary traditions and contemporary American pedagogical approaches.
Professional Experience: Prior to joining IUP, Dr. Dassier served at the University of Southern Mississippi where he taught undergraduate and graduate French courses and co-developed the Masters of Arts in Teaching Languages (MATL) program with specializations in TESOL, French, and Spanish. He previously taught at Northern Michigan University as supervisor of the foreign language teacher certification program, demonstrating extensive program leadership experience alongside classroom instruction.
Academic Service: At IUP, Dr. Dassier actively advises the French CAFE (French Club) and mentors French minors.
