Jean Koh Peters is the Sol Goldman Clinical Professor Emeritus of Law at Yale Law School. She specializes in child law, immigration law, and clinical legal education, with a focus on cross-cultural lawyering, ethics, and systemic advocacy. Her career spans over three decades, including roles as a supervising attorney for Yale’s Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization and leadership in child advocacy and immigration clinics.
Education: B.A. magna cum laude from Radcliffe College (1979), J.D. from Harvard Law School (1982). Prior to Yale, she served as an associate director at Columbia’s Child Advocacy Clinic and a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Division.
Research interests include child representation in protective proceedings, cross-cultural competency in legal practice, and lawyer well-being. She co-authored Representing Children in Child Protective Proceedings: Ethical and Practical Dimensions and co-created the Habits of Cross-Cultural Lawyering curriculum. Her work on race in legal education and asylum law has been widely recognized.

She trained U.S. asylum officers (1995–2018) and advised over 300 students in child advocacy and immigration clinics. Her legacy includes advancing equitable legal representation for vulnerable populations.
