Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropologyمعرفی
Jean-Jacques Hublin is a Professor at the Collège de France and the founder of the Department of Human Evolution at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. His research focuses on human evolution, particularly Neanderthals and the origins of modern humans. He pioneered virtual paleoanthropology, integrating medical imaging and computational techniques to analyze fossils. Hublin's work bridges paleontology, archaeology, and molecular biology, addressing topics like hominin biology, cultural evolution, and niche construction.
Education and Career: After a career at CNRS, he became Professor at Bordeaux-I University (1999) and Max Planck Institute (2004). He has taught at UC Berkeley, Harvard, Stanford, and Leiden University. He was the first president of the European Society for the Study of Human Evolution (ESHE).
Key Contributions: Directed excavations at Jebel Irhoud, Morocco, revealing early Homo sapiens. His research spans hominin demography, technology, subsistence, and environmental adaptation. He leads the Paleoanthropology team at the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en biologie (CIRB) at Collège de France.
Research Themes: Includes hominin speciation, brain evolution, dental development, and the spread of modern humans. His recent work explores mobility, diet, and the interaction between biology and culture in human evolution.
