Jean E. McLain is a Professor and Assistant Dean for Faculty Advancement at the University of Arizona. She specializes in soil and water microbiology with a focus on public health, food safety, and microbial source tracking of contamination. Her work explores the development of microbial antibiotic resistance under environmental contamination pressures.
She contributes to extension and outreach efforts in food safety and is affiliated with the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC). She teaches Scientific Writing for the Environmental, Agricultural and Life Sciences (ENVS 408), emphasizing communication in these fields.
McLain holds a PhD in Microbial Ecology from Duke University. Her research integrates microbial ecology, water quality, and sustainability in arid and semi-arid regions.
