Jean Decety is the Irving B. Harris Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago, where he leads the Social Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory. His research focuses on the neurobiology of social cognition, particularly empathy, morality, and prosocial behavior, using multimodal approaches like fMRI, EEG, and behavioral economics.

Research Interests span social neuroscience, moral decision-making, psychopathy, developmental social neuroscience, and affective neuroscience. His work examines neural mechanisms of fairness, prosociality, and moral convictions, integrating cross-cultural studies across Southeast Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas.
Scientific Awards include the IPSEN Foundation Neuropsychology Award (2013), Fellowships from AAAS (2011) and APS (2009), and multiple international grants.
Publications highlight neuroimaging studies on empathy, moral reasoning, and the dark side of morality, with a focus on developmental trajectories and cross-species comparisons.
