Jean Crespi is an Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut. His research focuses on structural geology and tectonics, particularly in regions such as the Taconic orogenic belt, New England-Quebec igneous province, and the eastern North American margin. He combines fieldwork, microstructural analysis, and kinematic modeling to study tectonic evolution.
Education: Ph.D. in Geology from University of Colorado, Boulder; M.S. from University of Arizona; B.S. from Wellesley College.
Research interests include structural analysis of thrust sheets, geochronology of igneous provinces, and tectonic implications of deformation patterns. His work spans field-based investigations and laboratory techniques like 40Ar/39Ar dating and LA-ICP-MS U-Pb geochronology.
Recent publications highlight studies on the New England-Quebec igneous province, Taconic allochthon strain variations, and tectonic processes in active collision zones like Taiwan. Crespi’s research contributes to understanding continental margin evolution and deformation mechanisms in both contractional and extensional settings.
