Dr. Jayne Spiller is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Leicester's School of Psychology and Vision Sciences. Her research focuses on sleep patterns in children with neurodevelopmental conditions and those born preterm, alongside the interplay between sleep, cognition, and mental health. She has conducted funded projects examining sleep's role in memory consolidation and has contributed to longitudinal studies like the EPICure2@11 project assessing outcomes for extremely preterm children. Her work bridges developmental psychology, clinical research, and educational interventions.
Dr. Spiller’s academic trajectory includes postdoctoral roles at the University of Leicester (Health Sciences) and Loughborough University’s Centre for Mathematical Cognition. Her research interests span mathematical cognition, executive function, and home numeracy environments. Key projects include evaluating sleep's impact on academic performance and behavioral outcomes in vulnerable populations.
Her publications highlight trends in sleep disorders across neurodevelopmental syndromes (e.g., Smith-Magenis, Angelman) and preterm birth cohorts, emphasizing clinical and educational implications. She advocates for evidence-based guidelines to manage sleep issues in at-risk children. Current efforts explore multi-method sleep assessments and the role of environmental factors in neurocognitive development.
