Jay Kirkham is a Lecturer in Social Work at Keele University's School of Law, specializing in social work law, theory-to-practice pedagogy, and child protection. With a professional background as a solicitor in tort, private family, and land law, she transitioned to child protection social work after completing her Master of Arts in Social Work (2009). She has taught at Keele and Staffordshire Universities while maintaining active practice through sessional work in Keele Law School.
Educational Qualifications include: MA in Social Work (Keele), Post-Graduate Diploma in Higher Education Practice (Fellowship in Higher Education Academy), and Distinction-awarded LLM in Law and Society (Keele, 2022).
Her research focuses on legal literacy in social care, particularly the application of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 through legal consciousness methodology. This work involves qualitative interviews with social care assessors in partnership with Partners in Care, a training organization serving 250+ adult care institutions.
