Dr. Jay Albanese is a Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University's L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs. He holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University and specializes in transnational organized crime, corruption, and criminal justice ethics. Dr. Albanese previously served as Chief of the International Center at the National Institute of Justice (U.S. Department of Justice) and is a past president of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.
His research focuses on:
- Transnational crime networks and organized criminal enterprises
- Corruption mechanisms across public and private sectors
- Ethical decision-making in criminal justice systems
- Emerging cybercrime threats and illegal gambling operations
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on corruption analysis, cybercrime patterns, and criminal justice reform, with particular emphasis on empirical assessments of transnational crime networks and policy effectiveness.
