Javier Moreno-Rivero is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Translation & Intercultural Studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. He holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Cambridge (2023) and has taught at institutions in the UK and US, including UCLA. His expertise spans applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, translation studies, and law-language intersections, with a focus on minoritized languages and social justice.
Education includes a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2023), MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo & Instituto Cervantes (2015), MA in Institutional Translation from Universidad de Alicante (2015), and a BA in Translation & Interpreting from Universidad Pablo de Olavide de Sevilla (2013).
Research interests include forensic linguistics, civil rights, immigration law, and sociopolitical aspects of language policy. He actively contributes to academic boards, including the International Journal for the Semiotics of Law and the Journal of the Spanish Association of Linguistics.
He has supervised over 50 postgraduate students in applied linguistics and translation studies across Spain and the UK. Professional memberships include the Modern Language Association and European Society for Translation Studies.
