Javier Lopez-Zetina is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Health Science at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where he is tenured. His office is located in KIN 009. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas School of Public Health and an M.A. from the University of Houston.
His research focuses on epidemiologic methods applied to drug abuse and addiction, including HIV seroconversion among drug users, obesity, physical activity environmental determinants, and social obesogenic factors. He has conducted cross-cultural studies on methamphetamine use along the U.S./Mexico border and examined cultural factors influencing substance abuse in migration-impacted communities.
Key projects include studies on methamphetamine use and mental health in Southern California and Mexico, comparisons of substance abuse patterns on the U.S./Mexico border, and analyses of mortality in injection drug users. He has authored numerous articles and presented over 100 abstracts at epidemiology and public health conferences.
Dr. Lopez-Zetina has served as a Fulbright Scholar in Peru and as a Visiting Professor at universities in Ecuador and Mexico. He contributes to academic publishing as an editorial board member of the Open Journal of Epidemiology and a reviewer for journals like Addiction and the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
