Javed N Malik

Prof. Javed N. Malik is a Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He specializes in Active Fault Mapping, Paleoseismology, and Paleo-tsunami studies, contributing significantly to Seismic/Tsunami Hazard Assessment and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) applications in archaeology.

• Identified active faults in Himalayas: Kangra Valley Fault, Taksal Fault, Pinjore Garden Fault, Hajipur Fault, and faults in Gujarat.
• Conducted paleoseismic investigations revealing evidence of mega-thrust earthquakes and transoceanic tsunamis in the Andaman region over the last 8000 years.
• Collaborated with national archaeological departments for buried structure detection using GPR.
• Recipient of multiple scientific awards, including the National Geoscience Award and INSA Fellowship.

His research group operates advanced facilities such as GPR systems, OSL dating equipment, and UAV drones for geological and archaeological surveys. He has supervised numerous students presenting at international conferences like EGU and AOGS.
