معرفی
Jaume Ametller is an Associate Professor of Science Education at the University of Girona, where he has been working since 2013 as part of the Serra Hunter program. He serves as Director of the Department of Specific Teaching and Director of the Josep Pallach Institute of Educational Sciences. Prior to his position at the University of Girona, he worked for ten years at the University of Leeds (England) as a Lecturer in Science Education. At the University of Girona, he teaches in the Primary Education Teacher degree and the Master's in ESO and Baccalaureate teacher training programs.
Dr. Ametller's educational background includes:
- Physics degree from the Autonomous University of Barcelona
- Master's degree in Science and Mathematics Education from the same institution
- PhD with a thesis on multimodal language in the teaching of energy in secondary schools
His research focuses on the study of classroom discourse, the design and evaluation of teaching units, teacher training using classroom videos, and the reasons why secondary school students choose science studies. Ametller has made significant contributions to the concept of "pedagogical link-making" - the ways in which teachers and students make connections between ideas in classroom teaching and learning. His work often explores how language, particularly dialogue, shapes learning in classrooms with and without digital technology. He has led research on how science curriculum content impacts students' subject choices in post-compulsory schooling and has been instrumental in developing design-based research approaches for creating effective teaching-learning sequences in science education.
A review of Ametller's recent publications reveals a consistent focus on design-based research methodologies in science education, with particular emphasis on physics education. His work bridges the gap between educational research and classroom practice, developing frameworks for creating effective teaching-learning sequences. There is a clear trajectory in his research toward integrating digital technologies into science classrooms while maintaining focus on the fundamental aspects of classroom discourse and pedagogical link-making. His publications demonstrate a commitment to translating research insights into practical teaching tools, with increasing attention to ethical considerations in science education research.
Dr. Ametller has been actively involved in educational leadership, having served as coordinator of the Primary Education Teacher degree (2012-2016) and Director of the Department of Specific Teaching since 2016. Since May 2019, he has coordinated the Generalitat de Catalunya's program for the improvement and innovation of initial training of early childhood and primary school teachers (MIF). His research has been supported through various projects, including the large-scale ADIGIC project examining the use of digital classrooms in Catalan secondary science education.
He is a member of the Scientific and Environmental Education Research Group (GRECA) and has collaborated extensively with researchers across Europe and internationally. His work with the Research Group on Science and Environmental Education has produced significant insights into the use of images as didactic tools in science education and the factors shaping the uptake of ICT in science classrooms.
