Jatia Wrighten is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Virginia Commonwealth University's College of Humanities and Sciences. Her research focuses on intersectionality, Black women's political participation, and legislative leadership dynamics. Active in professional organizations including the American Political Science Association and National Conference of Black Political Scientists, she combines academic rigor with community engagement.

Dr. Wrighten's research examines how Black women legislators navigate political systems through dual lenses of race and gender. Current work investigates talent development pathways and legislative effectiveness, with specific projects analyzing Stacey Abrams' Fair Fight initiatives and the systemic burdens faced by Black women in U.S. democracy.
Her recent publications analyze intersectional frameworks in political representation, with emphasis on authentic leadership development and institutional barriers in state legislatures. The work spans theoretical analysis and empirical studies of political elites.
